“How much meaning and culture can get lost in translation.”

September 26, the European Day of Languages, was established to celebrate the diversity of languages and cultures across Europe. As a vibrant international community, AISV celebrated this special day with assemblies where students demonstrated their knowledge and appreciation of languages, played games, enjoyed performances and video projects, and performed our school song in different languages.

This year, our students explored idioms from around the world. They selected a variety of interesting expressions, illustrated them, and tried translating them into different languages, sometimes creating unexpected and amusing results that reminded us how much meaning and culture can get lost in translation.

We are grateful for the initiative and enthusiasm of our Language Department teachers, who inspire our students to explore and appreciate the richness of languages – not just for a special celebration, but every single day.
