Back from Sofia, Forward Together
There is a particular feeling that comes after a meaningful conference. The suitcase is unpacked, the name badge is set aside, and somewhere between the journey home and the first moments back at school, a few ideas begin to settle into place. Not all at once, but in pieces. A new perspective. A useful strategy. A conversation that stays with you. A reminder of what matters most. That is what April feels like for CEESA this year.
The long middle stretch of the school year begins to soften, the days grow lighter, and even if spring is taking its time, there is usually a sense that something is shifting. In schools, this season often asks a lot of us. There is real momentum, but also real pressure, especially for seniors as exams, deadlines, and decisions about what comes next begin to draw closer. And yet this is also a hopeful time. It is when growth becomes easier to notice, when steady work begins to show itself, and when the care, structure, and encouragement surrounding students matter more than ever.
That is part of what made CEESA 2026 in Sofia so meaningful. From March 12 to 14, our community came together around this year’s theme, The Heart and Art of Teaching, and left with more than notes and resources. We left with renewed energy, practical learning, and a shared sense of purpose. We left with a real pride in the students we served after seeing some of them present. Hosted by AAS Sofia, the conference reminded us that the work we do each day reaches far beyond a single lesson or school week. It shapes confidence, belonging, and possibility for students at every stage of their journey. For younger learners, that means continuing to build curiosity and connection. For seniors, it means helping them meet this demanding season with steadiness, encouragement, and hope.
As we move into April, we carry forward not only what we learned in Sofia, but also the belief that our shared work continues to make a lasting difference.
