An AISB-led arts residency bringing Romanian contemporary dance-theatre into the heart of student learning.

The LINOTIP Residency is an arts-led programme at the American International School of Bucharest, now in its third year, facilitated by Theatre and TOK Teacher Jamie Cant in collaboration with artists including from LINOTIP Independent Choreography Centre. Taking place across AISB and LINOTIP’s professional studio spaces in Bucharest, the residency brings students into direct contact with host country artists and contemporary Romanian dance-theatre practice.

Across the residency, students engaged in improvisation, ensemble-building, and embodied storytelling, working alongside professional choreographers to generate original creative material. The process mirrored real-world artistic practice, emphasising trust, collaboration, and risk-taking, while offering students insight into the cultural and creative landscape of the country in which they live and learn.

The residency was meaningful in its ability to bridge school learning with local culture, positioning students not as observers but as active participants in Romania’s artistic community. Through sustained partnership and shared creation, students developed confidence, empathy, resilience, and a deeper sense of connection to place, demonstrating how school-initiated residencies can enrich learning while strengthening cultural understanding across international school contexts.
