Following the Rocket Launch to Mars challenge this Fall, secondary students in Mr. Smith’s Mathematics classes took on a creative engineering challenge: designing and constructing an inflatable “Mars Habitat.” Working in teams, each student took on a specific role to help build modular space pods using plastic sheeting, tape, and fans.

The project integrated concepts of geometry, air pressure, and airflow, encouraging hands-on application of math and science skills. Through careful planning and teamwork, the students created a functional structure that captured the imagination. The final habitat was large enough for entire classes to step inside, and students from across the school were invited to explore it.
