"Head Problems" by Ben Knight and Karim Letwinsky

Join us and learn about "Head Problems," an effective and highly interactive method for beginning a math class.

Head Problems are useful for activating prior knowledge, review/preview, supporting mental mathematics, and front-loading strategies as part of a balanced math program. Kids love them and so do teachers. Come learn what they're all about!

Ben Knight is currently a Grade 5 teacher at AIS Vilnius.

He previously taught at AIS Chennai. He began his career teaching Grade 6 for 12 years in high-poverty schools in Stockton, CA. Ben earned his BA in Psychology from CSU, Chico and his MA in Educational Leadership and California Administrative Services Credential from University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. This is his 16th year in education. 

 

Karim Medico Letwinsky

Karim Medico Letwinsky is the Department Chairperson and an Assistant Professor in the Doctoral Department of Educational Leadership at Wilkes University in Pennsylvania.

She also serves as the Director of Graduate International Education Programs. At Wilkes, she teaches master and doctoral level courses in Effective Instruction, Curriculum, Assessment, and Quantitative Research/Statistics. 

Karim is a former mathematics teacher with certifications in elementary and secondary math and leadership. She has spent the last 22 years in education, spanning K-post secondary. As an international mathematics consultant, Karim provides targeted professional development workshops to K-12 classroom teachers world wide.
