IICS Idol 2017. What an Event!

What an amazing show! After the long lead up to our IICS Idol 2017, we were not disappointed.

We had an energetic audience, great performances, and our judges had a very difficult time deciding who would win the coveted award! In addition to judges Jane Thompson, Kevin Burns, Pinar Johnson, and professional opera singer Gonca Gurses van Herpen, we had another very special guest judge: IICS alumnus from the Class of 2010, Lara Başakıncı, who is now a professional singer and vocal coach.

Congratulations to Helen Hopping and her Performing Arts Team: Kevin Burns, Gonca Gurses van Herpen and Nicola Pryor. Pinar Johnson, ably supported by Sezai Kara, transformed the theatre into a glittering venue, while Philip S., supported by Kevin Burns and Heath Fontes, created a professional sound and lighting experience.

And then there were the performances– each different, polished, confident, and awesome! In the end, after much deliberation, the judges announced this year’s winning performances.

  • IICS IDOL 2017 Winners: Sascha S., SeugJun L., and Hyungmin S., performing “Tuyo” (theme from “Narcos“)
  • IICS IDOL 2017 Runners Up: Aramis H. and Zoe I., performing an original rap
  • IICS Idol 2017 Audience Choice Award: Abdulrahman E., performing “Libyan” a rap remix
  • IICS Idol 2017 Audience Choice Award Runners Up: Eleanor D. and Lea R., performing “When I was Your Man”

In addition to the students above, the event featured amazing vocal performances by Parmida M., Mana Y., Anais G. accompanied by Aleyna L., and the band the Mosquitoes (Makoto M., Sam S., Luke V., Can G., and Philipp S.).

ALL the performances were fantastic and all our performers deserve a round of applause!
