IS Latvia Supports Local Cancer

Fundraising run for a local Charity which provides support services for those who have been diagnosed with Cancer.

As a International Baccalaureate World School, The International School of Latvia follows the Primary Years Program. One aspect of this Program is “Exhibition” a student created action project which is completed by Grade 5 students as a culmination of the work they have done in the Elementary school.

This year three students focused their project on raising money to support the local charity Pink Train Foundation whose Patron is the British Ambassidor to Latvia. The main aim of the charity is to  “raise funds so that women diagnosed with breast cancer in Latvia can receive professional, psychological support and physiotherapy.

The students arranged a sponsored run at school, starting by advertising and informing other students in the Elementary School about the project and then planning the big day.

On the 29th of April, the Elementary school had their Assembly and heard about all the various action projects being organized by Grade 5 students. Immediately after the whole Elementary school ran round the playing fields. Despite the ever darkening skies, the event stayed dry and ended with pink ribbon badges for participants and a cup of Pink Lemonade.  The final amount of money raised has not yet been totaled but it has also inspired students and teachers to be sponsored to the upcoming Riga Marathon which will guarantee even more money to support the cause.
