Moodle for Mastery

Lecturer: Daniel Hefley. Program Area: Technology / Strand: Digital Learning / Grade Level: K-12.

Daniel Hefley, Science & Technology teacher at Kyiv International School.

Over the last few decades mastery learning has become an increasingly popular pedagogical approach. Key tenets in this approach are the use of outcomes and corrective feedback. In this workshop you will learn how to successfully design a course on a virtual learning platform such as Moodle using the mastery learning approach, and in so doing, explore some important tools that will give your Moodle course increased functionality. First we will explore different ways of tracking student progress. This may be achieve by using grades, conditional activities, and using criteria for activity completion. We will also explore how to add outcomes, assign them to activities, and provide feedback to students regarding their progress meeting those outcomes. Furthermore, we will explore how to use badges and rubrics within Moodle.
