Last week the MYP celebrated all that is Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics with the annual STEAM Fair. MYP students carried out a scientific investigation or solved an engineering problem of their choice and presented a poster of their work to judges who quizzed them on their methods and conclusions before awarding prizes for the best work. In addition to these projects there were exhibitions of electronics projects from the DT Department, Sustainable sculptures from the Art Department, a Mathematics Olympiad organised by the Maths Department and a guest speaker who gave us an insight into the importance of engineering and the exciting careers available in the STEAM field. We were also pleased to welcome some budding scientists from G3Y who shared their informative research posters with us. Students learn a great deal from taking part in an event like this. Not only do they gain insight into the scientific process, but it is an opportunity for them to experience first-hand the difficulties of undertaking scientific research or engineering projects. By encountering problems and solving them as part of a team, students are able to develop problem solving skills, resilience, creativity and teamwork.
