CEESA Teachers Slowpitch Tournament

The first tournament of the CEESA Athletics year.

The first tournament of the CEESA Athletics year was not what you might have thought as AIS Vienna, AIS Budapest, AS Warsaw and IS Helsinki all met in Vienna for a teachers only slowpitch softball tournament.

AIS Vienna has had a slowpitch softball team in a local league for nine years and also regularly plays in local tournaments but it was not until three years ago when AIS Budapest joined in that things started to take shape. AIS Budapest's AD Matt Fleming thought it would be a great bounding experience for their teachers and staff to make the bus ride to Vienna for a weekend tournament and in the first year he had enough teachers to form two full teams. Other CEESA schools caught on and in 2013 ICS Istanbul and AS Warsaw joined the tournament.

Together with local slowpitch softball teams the CEESA teachers teams had a great experience but they talked about having an exclusive teachers only tournament. On August 23 and 24, 2014 the first CEESA Teachers Slowpitch tournament took place.

After a full day of slowpitch on the Saturday, teams met in Vienna's first district for dinner and socializing which capped off a fantastic day of athleticism, collaboration and community building. Unfortunately the weather gods did go along with the plan and the final games on Sunday were rained out.  However, the purpose of the tournament was met and, at least for those four schools, their school years got off to a fun and collaborative start.

In 2015, the tournament will move to the beautiful campus of AIS Budapest where hopefully more CEESA schools can join in the fun.
