AISZ Senior Kindergarten Win Scholastic International Author Award

Kids Are Authors is an annual international competition open to students in grades K–8. The competition is designed to encourage students to use their reading, writing, and artistic skills.

Students work in teams of three or more students to write and illustrate their own book. They learn to work as a team, share ideas, practice editing and communication skills.

This year, on  May 14 a representative form the London Scholastic office came to AISZ to announce at a special elementary school assembly that three Senior Kindergarten boys, Leo, Alex & Matej, had won the worldwide Scholastic contest 'Kids are Authors' with their picture book 'How to Get a Girlfriend'.

Ms. Leslie, the Scholastic representative informed us that it was the first time in the contest's 16 year history that an entry from a school outside of the USA had won, and that there had been more than 1,000 entries this year.

Ms. Leslie will visit our school again in the fall to formally present the boys with medals and a published book for each of' "How to Get a Girlfriend" . As part of the prize, AISZ will also receive $5,000 of Scholastic products.
