The Council of International Schools (CIS): Evaluation and Accreditation Protocol

Graham Ranger

Room Prague D

Aims

  • To offer a training workshop for any colleagues wishing to participation in a CIS Visiting Evaluation/Accreditation team;
  • To promote a greater understanding of how international schools are evaluated using the CIS Protocol;
  • To promote effective evaluation and report writing of aspects of a school’s provision;
  • To consider trends in international education worldwide, as shown by the outcomes CIS’ programme of evaluation/accreditation visits.

This will be an interactive workshop, which will encourage participants to analyze materials from schools, make judgments and write evaluatively to support a school’s continuous improvement. Participation in CIS Visiting Teams is a benefit of a school’s membership in CIS, i.e. it is offered to those who are from CIS member schools and who have both the backing of their Head of School, as well as the educational, evaluative expertise and inter-personal skills to benefit other schools in this role. This workshop will be a training workshop for those looking to join teams or to refresh their thinking through using the 8th edition of the CIS Protocol. For those who are not from a CIS member school, the workshop will offer insights into how the evaluation/accreditation process contributes to a school’s improvement. We will examine such questions as:

  • How do you evaluate diverse models of governance against accreditation standards?
  • How do the three drivers of the Protocol - The School’s Guiding Statements; Internationalism; Teaching and Learning- work in practice?
  • What makes for an effective school self-evaluation?
  • How does one come to judgments about a school’s provision and, at the same time, promote the school’s development?
  • How do you best contribute to an Evaluation/Accreditation Team?
