CEESA Assessment Summit at AAS Sofia

Anglo-American School of Sofia hosted the CEESA Healthy Assessment Summit last week (Oct 3-5) in their brand new Rila Renaissance Building. Educators from the CEESA region joined some of the AAS faculty to discuss how they might assess all learners.

Dr. Lee Ann Jung (inclusion specialist) and Dawn Summerfield (from NWEA) led multiple sessions to support educators in engaging their students in goal setting, self-assessment, and assessment co-designing.

The summit has given everyone a chance to think deeply about where we are now and where we want to go to constantly strive for excellence in our instructional practices. Participants understood that while grading is not necessary, assessing is and there are multiple ways to assess learning. The purpose of assessment is to inform our instructional practices so we can respond to student needs.

We also became aware of the importance of designing assessments for the 'edges', not for 'average' and how to incorporate Universal Design for Learning so that all learners can access the assessment, receive feedback and improve.
