IS Helsinki and CEESA ‘Taking IT Global’

ISH had the honor to host Michael Furdyk and Jennifer Corriero, co-founders of ‘TakingITGlobal, in an action packed four day workshop.

The students, teachers and CEESA participants were truly inspired and empowered by their work with ‘Taking IT Global’ this past week.

We wrestled with the challenge of creating change in a complex world and moved through different steps to develop action projects that will be effective and sustainable. In our school, a group of Grades 5s are planning to organise a Peace Walk to raise consciousness of different conflicts around the world.

A group of Upper School students are planning initiatives in the school to promote vegetarianism and veganism as the most effective way of tackling climate change. Some of our teachers are planning a roof-top garden. Another group want to start a social media campaign #I AM ME to combat gender prejudices.

Our challenge as a community is to sustain this energy and make good on our commitments.

Michael and Jennifer and TIG have developed a huge bank of online resources to support young people with taking thoughtful action (www.tigweb.org). We would like to extend our gratitude to CEESA for supporting this inspirational event.
