Emily Hays

Emily-HayesBorn and raised in the beautiful state of South Carolina, this Southern Belle could not wait to graduate from university and begin spending time learning with little people.

When she was a kindergartner, those around her knew that, by her own admission, she would grow up to be either a teacher or a truck driver. As soon as she graduated with a B.A. in Early Childhood Education, she jumped feet first into a third grade teacher’s position in the local public school district. She quickly realized why the previous teacher took an early medical leave! However, her desire to inspire little ones was not dampened, and she continued working for the Aiken County Public School District for 12 years teaching predominantly kindergarten.

With a drive and passion to truly make a difference in a less fortunate place, in 2005 Emily followed her heart’s desire to teach abroad. Although her husband and daughter have not been convinced that the tiny African village of her dreams is calling her family, thet have enjoyed the journey life has offered them thus far in international schools in Abu Dhabi, Moscow, Riyadh, and Bucharest. In these schools she has facilitated instruction in KG2/kindergarten, first grade, and even a year of middle school literacy electives. She presently teach EC4 at the American International School in Bucharest and daily experience the love of learning with a truly international class of 16 learners whose families come from Algeria, Argentina, Australia, China, Germany, Hungary, Mexico, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Syria, and the USA!
