Meeting the Social-Emotional Needs of Elementary School Students through Library and Counseling Collaboration by Rebecca Battistoni and Laura Giosh-Markov

This workshop will detail a year-long curriculum that can be implemented immediately for elementary students.

This workshop will detail a year-long curriculum that can be implemented immediately for elementary students. A flexible format allows for personalization of the themes to correspond with a school's needs. Ten themes, with age appropriate activities, book titles, songs, quotes, and discussion prompts, are used to engage students in topics that range from friendship to bullying to transition, to name just a few. The curriculum is jointly taught by the librarian and guidance counselor at the school, but can also be implemented by classroom teachers who are looking to add a social-emotional component to their teaching.
