Modular Learning by Omer Kipmen

This workshop discusses the different facets of Modular Learning.

The workshop will include elements of:

  • Our take on what "modular learning" is
  • Discussion around the rationale of the shift from traditional teaching
  • Impact on teaching and learning
  • Relevance and practicality of outcomes

Omer was born in Istanbul, Turkey.

Omer was born in Istanbul, Turkey. After completing his BSc and MSc in Chemistry, he started working at Istanbul International Community School where he realized that education was his passion. He is currently the Head of Science Department and teaches IB Chemistry. He has recently been appointed as IB DP Coordinator of IICS for 2016-17 school year.

Having experience in IB and international education for 17 years, Omer has worked with a great number of students with diverse educational and cultural backgrounds. He is a strong believer in personalized learning where curriculum and environment can be tailored to meet the needs of diverse group of students. 

For the 2015-16 school year, Omer and his colleagues in the Science Department implemented a “Modular Learning” system for MYP Grade 10 Science course where students are provided with opportunities to study topics at their own pace with guidance.
