“Do You Mind?” Cultivating Mindfulness in Your Classroom Practice by Lindsey Peak, MYP Humanities, DP History Teacher at the International School of Belgrade

Never mind worrying about the assumption that our world will change- the change has already happened! Likely none have felt a stronger shift towards rapid-paced technology and information overload than our students. Instead of fighting this change, let’s accept that (great!) change has already happened while simultaneously seeking mind-altering practices that will allow our digitally native and hard working university bound students to become healthy, balanced, global citizens.

Lindsay Peak, IB Humanities teacher and certified yoga instructor, will focus on the classroom benefits of “Mindfulness,” defined as paying attention in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment, and without judgment. Workshop participants will explore current research on Mindfulness in the classroom, and actively learn practical exercises through gentle stretching, meditation, and breathing. Lindsay will also share her own action research and hopefully inspire other teachers to explore how Mindfulness practices can benefit their own students.
