CEESA schools from Budapest, Istanbul, Kiev, Moscow, Prague, Warsaw, the British School of Bucharest and the host school AISB Bucharest came together the weekend of November 6 to 9 in Bucharest to compete for the right to be crowned champions at the Junior Varsity Boys Soccer Tournament.
In what was an evenly matched tournament throughout where teams matched great plays, with crucial mistakes and good sportsmanship! It came down to which team could hold its nerve as the games became more and more tense.
The first day saw Prague and the British School top Group A and B respectively, and having the easier routes to the Semi-Finals. Prague beat Budapest in one quarter-final and the British School held its nerve against Kiev. The other two quarter finals saw Istanbul lose by penalties to Warsaw, and Moscow ease by Bucharest.
That set up some interesting semi-finals, with Moscow versus the British School being the most exciting with Moscow winning in sudden death penalties. Prague advanced from the other semi-final to set up the championship game.
What was a close game in the first half turned on two very quick goals for Prague, and what looked to be a close game turned into a one-sided affair and Prague beat Moscow 5-0. All in all in was a great event, coaches and players worked hard and represented their respective schools admirably.
