Tashkent International School Celebrates 20th Anniversary

Students, Staff Gather for Impressive Aerial Photo Shoot on TIS Campus.

Take almost 500 eager students in preschool through grade 12, add more than 100 staff members, and top it all off with a very energetic, ready-for-anything, no-fear-of-adventure staff photographer and you end up with one impressive memorable moment.

At Tashkent International School, that moment came on Friday, October 3 when Erik Peterson, TIS staff photographer, took the first aerial photo of the entire TIS student body and faculty to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the school.

To create this image, the students and adults positioned themselves within the markings Erik had carefully paced out on the large open field on the TIS campus. Once inside, the large group formed an impressively large "20."

As the students and faculty members gathered, Erik stood atop the three-story main classroom building, giving out instructions, telling students where to move and where to fill in the blank spots. In a relatively short amount of time (with more than 600 people to commandeer, the timing was impressive!), everyone was in place and ready for their history-making photo shoot.

For their attention to instructions and incredible patience, the students were treated to an ice cream snack once the photo was done and people were allowed to leave their spots. The campus once again sprang to life as children milled around in the warm fall weather, enjoying their unexpected treats and visiting with friends before grabbing their backpacks and heading home for the week-long fall break.

Congratulations to all the students, faculty and entire TIS community on this wonderful milestone! Twenty years as an international learning community in the heart of Central Asia is indeed something to be proud of.

Additional 20th anniversary celebrations and activities are being planned for students later in the school year.

TIS was founded in 1994 and is now an International Baccalaureate World School offering all three IB programmes. The school has almost 500 students in preschool through grade 12 from 37 countries and will boast its largest graduating class next May with 43 students in the Class of 2015. TIS is the only school in Uzbekistan authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate programme.
