Dear CEESA Colleagues and Friends,
The events in Paris, Belgium, Ethiopia, Syria, and around the world have made me acutely aware of the importance of the work we do. Our international schools bring together people, young and old, from different counties, cultures and religions that also bring their different perspectives and ideas. We work to build communities where the way of life is to speak our minds, respect our differences, and take care of one another. This gives me the hope that these kinds of communities are possible not just in our schools—and that our students can and will build them.
We in CEESA are also fortunate to have had opportunities over many years to seek out the wisdom and experience of our neighbors and created stronger institutions because we relied on each other. This year, we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of our CEESA Conference. This will be a major event in which we will once again share our best work and ideas with each other.
I not only want to invite you to Dubrovnik, Croatia March 12-14, the site of the first CEESA Conference, but also urge you and your colleagues to come. We have invited our former directors and leadership and look forward to reconnecting with many old friends as well as make new ones. The CEESA Staff and Board of Directors have planned a special program that we hope will have something that will interest and engage teachers and administrators from every discipline—Transforming Education through Global Citizenship.
We look forward to the Keynote addresses of Michael Furdyk and Heidi Hayes Jacobs. There are three days of interesting learning and cultural events for you to enjoy. On Thursday there are PreConference sessions and your choice of five different full or half-day tours. The CEESA Exhibitors’ Welcome Reception is planned for 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the hotel. After the conference sessions on Friday, an evening City Treasure Hunt is planned to intrigue everyone. Saturday afternoon, participants will be taken into the Old City of Dubrovnik to explore the city and walk the wall, if desired. Buses will bring you back to the hotel beginning at 5:00 PM through 6:30 PM, so you can get ready for the CEESA Gala Celebration and Dance at the Radisson Blu, beginning at 7:30 PM. You will not want to miss sampling the wines of Dalmatia, Istria and the other local regions, even if you do not have time for a tour of some vineyards!
Be sure to book your rooms at the Radisson Blu Resort and Spa, Dubrovnik Sun Gardens, if you have not yet done so.
Please come learn with us, share your experience, make new friends and see old ones!
